About Associa

History

A company 30 years in the making.

Some say Associa began when John Carona arranged for his first lawn-mowing job at age 12, a job that quickly grew to serving 20 homeowners a week. That planted the seed for a growing interest in property management. Others say it began just 30 years ago when Carona signed his first client, in Dallas, Texas. Today, Associa is a global company serving communities around the world, while still staying true to our entrepreneurial spirit.

1979

John Carona founded a boutique property management firm providing limited property management services to apartments and condominiums in Dallas.

1983

Utilizing IBM System 36 technology, Carona and his team became among the first in the industry to embrace computer technology.

1988

Established an in-house service department to handle the construction and maintenance needs of community common areas, growing the local fleet to over 100 trucks.

1996

Opened the first branch office just east of downtown Fort Worth.

1998

Acquired ProComm, now Associa Hill Country, Associa’s first company outside of North Texas.

2001

Acquired Phoenix-based Jomar Association Services, now Associa Arizona, Associa’s first company outside of Texas.

2002

Acquired Community Management Corporation in Chantilly, Virginia, a recognized national leader in industry operations and governance.

2003

Founded Associations Insurance Agency, Inc. (AIAI), an independent agency, to provide more cost-effective insurance to clients.

2005

In 2005 and 2006, acquired 34 community management firms in 14 states across the U.S.

2006

Founded Community Archives, a web-based resale document-processing firm to deliver documents efficiently to buyers, realtors, lenders and title companies.

Established Associa University, an online training program that helps make Associa community managers and employees the most educated in the industry.

2007

Founded Associa Cares, a 501(c)(3) non-profit to assist people throughout the world who are victims of natural or man-made disasters.

2008

Founded the industry’s first nationwide political action committee, Associa PAC.

2009

Became a global business, opening Associa Mexico in Los Cabos.

2010

Acquired Professional Community Management (PCM), which manages one of the largest active adult communities on the West Coast.

Began the industry’s first online shopping network, Associa Advantage, enabling homeowners and employees to garner savings on home products and services.

Launched Associa Living, an online magazine full of useful and inspiring information for residents of homeowners associations across the nation.

Debuted Associa Supports Kids, a program to educate parents and children about safety and to sponsor youth sports activities to help kids stay active.

2011

Expanded into Canada with acquisition of three companies in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta in 2011- 2012

2012

Launched Associa Green, an environmental initiative to help families live healthier, “greener” lifestyles through Associa Green HomeGrown and Associa Green RecyclingRoundups.

Associa opens the industry's first client shared service center to support enterprise wide accounting operations.

2014

Joint venture in Dubai launched Associa Middle East North Africa (MENA) earmarking Associa’s first expansion outside of North America.

2015

Joint venture in South Africa launches Associa South Africa continuing our international expansion.
